Following on the success of various sports events over the past four years, we have the following planned over the next few months:
-
Pam Golding St Francis Bay Ladies Golf Open, Old Course, Saturday 18 July. Winning pair receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Johannesburg to play in the national final of the Pam Golding Ladies Amateur Golf Series. A full field is expected, especially considering the prize at stake.
-
Hansa Pam Golding St Francis Canoe Challenge, Canals, Sunday 26 July, co-hosted with Bluewater Canoe Club. 10km & 20km, plus 3km “anything-that-floats”. This is a EP Canoe Union sanctioned event, and a minimum of 100 PE paddlers is expected.
-
St Francis Bay MTB Challenge, St Francis Links, sponsored by Pam Golding, Sunday 6 September, co-hosted with FatTracks MTB Club. 5km, 15km, 30km, 50km. The route follows a beautiful track behind the Links down to Thys Punt, and back along the coast. A minimum of 200 cyclists is expected.
-
Spar Pam Golding St Francis Calamari Quadrathlon, Canals, Saturday 26 September (6/3km paddle, 20km MTB, 600m swim, 5km run). Team or individual. This is a repeat of last year’s very successful event, at which 150 participants enjoyed this unique format.

the St Francis Bay MTB Challenge 2010: Sunday 5 September at the Links, starting at 9am. This is a rare opportunity to cycle on private land, and is for a good cause, Sea Vista’s Disney Creche.
There are four races, with no age limits, but here are some guidelines:
· 5km: for the little ones, mostly below 10 (with their parents, if they are much younger)
· 15km: for all ages, particularly suitable for kids aged about 11 to 14, or younger if accompanied by a parent
· 30km: for those reasonably fit including kids over about 14, or younger if accompanied by a parent. The winner will take about 1hr 30min, but you have 4hrs until the prize-giving ..
· 60km: for the seriously fit
For more information and an entry form, see www.fattracks.co.za. Also see below. Entry forms also available at Pam Golding and at the Info Kiosk at the Spar. Entries for the 5km and 15km on the race day only. Entries for 30km and 60km received after Sunday 29 August might not get a free t-shirt.
This type of event requires marshalls, so non-cyclists please consider volunteering. Please contact Eric Stewart, esti.stewart@vodamail.co.za or 082 394 7363. Marshalls will receive a great race T-shirt, plus a burger & coke after the race. Ideally they should have a cell phone and transport.
